Michael Caton-Jones: Film Is Forever tells the remarkable story of a boy from the working-class mining village of Broxburn, Scotland, who rose to become one of Scotland’s most successful film directors.

From Scandal and Memphis Belle to Doc Hollywood, This Boy’s Life, Rob Roy and The Jackal, Michael built an extraordinary career in Hollywood, working with some of the biggest names in cinema.

But in a devastating house fire, his filmmaking archive was destroyed. Years of personal and professional memories, including irreplaceable material from his career, were suddenly gone.

Then came an extraordinary discovery.

A collection of never-before-seen tapes had survived — taken away to be digitised as part of the production shortly before the fire. Had they not been removed, this unique record of Michael’s life and career would have been lost forever.

Film Is Forever is a journey from Broxburn to Hollywood, told through Michael’s films, memories and a remarkable archive that was almost lost forever.
